Heresy I know but Any Thoughts on Reducing or Modifying the Core

I know "the Core" is central to how the College defines itself or so the literature would have you believe but it really is not for everybody. I think my kid will be fine with it (used to read Plato and Mythology for fun) but the next one may not be. D loves so many things about UChicago but she is just not a reader of the great books. While she has gotten through various AP social studies classes, it was not pleasant for anyone. Yet she loves the essay questions, she loves the idea of scavenger hunt, she is quirky and creative with so many interests and hobbies that she has no idea how to pick one. She wants the freedom to study whatever strikes her fancy and not fulfill requirements. Without the Core, UChicago would definitely be on her list, with it, not sure. The math, science, writing, visual or performing Art class and language requirements are NOT a problem. It is the civilization studies with 60 pages of reading per class that bode caution for her. Thoughts? With all changes coming, some out of the blue (ED?) any idea if they will lighten up the Core?
